Chips, eproms, what the hell? Does anyone still use these things? If so this article is for you!  The AEM EMS 2 is AEM's  second version of the their engine management system. The AEM EMS 2 is so advanced that it completely replaces your cars computer, so you can say good bye to your ancient ECU. The first version of the EMS changed the world of tuning in a way that old fashion tuning will never be able to compete. You might think tuning is very difficult, and it can be, but with the EMS 2, AEM has created it to be very user friendly. They claim even beginner tuners can learn and experiment. Having your own personal tune is superior to any chip or tune that someone else can do for you as you will set everything to your exact preferences.

How can a computer increase performance in my car you may ask. In many cars, the stock computer comes with settings that are "turned down" you can say. For various reasons such as emissions, fuel economy, and other restrictons cars face these days. Many cars have tunes that make the engine pretty sluggish. Increasing things such as the rev limiter, changing the fuel curve, tweaking the injectors, timing, and many more options there is potential to make the engine perform better. Tuning the computer to know about certain upgrades and more boost also allows for more power. Many cars use fuel maps and having a well worked out map may be what you need to go faster without adding any more parts! If you have an old car or the newest 370Z, it's going to keep your engine performing at it's best.

Ever have your ECU go out? If so it is a great time to replace it with the EMS 2. It plugs right into the factory harness and there is absolutely no cutting or soldering required! Have you reated your own custom map or tune? Don’t worry about thieves as you can password protect your work. The new version is actually smaller than the first version, so if space in an issue the AEM EMS 2 has got you covered. In car data logging is available for the user and the limit is as much as the laptop memory allows. Having visual graphs and layouts of the engines performance truly lets you know how the engine is running other than second guessing someone elses work. Looks like you'll finally be able to imitate Paul Walker from The Fast And The Furious and drive around with a laptop on your seat.

This unit is a bit pricey but, yet it's definetly something you will use every day. There are unlimited changes and tuning you can do with the AEM EMS 2, whether you want to go to the drag strip, drift, or just cruise on the street. At some point in the tuning process you will have to choose a scenario to use. The great thing about this is that you can even benefit from it being near stock as well as with a high performance race car. Remember when you were 16 and they said having a manual gear box puts you in full control of the car? Well that’s not the case anymore. With all of the features that the AEM EMS 2 comes with, being "in control” has a whole new meaning.
