Lexus IS300 Coilover Suspension Buyers Guide
The IS300 is a very elegant sports sedan but it's not until it gets the right suspension that it transforms into a beast. Many people agree that the IS300 is the sportiest and most aggressive looking model from Lexus. With its front mounted engine, rear wheel drive, and optional manual transmission the IS300 becomes a great candidate for tuners to build fast street/track cars out of.  Even though the IS300 is on the pricey side of cars, the features and quality are worth the price. There are many ways to upgrade and speed up the IS300, but one of the things that will make it not only look good but perform a lot better is the suspension. Coil over shocks are used in mostly every race car and even by the majority of street cars. The improved handling, ride height, and adjust-ability of the shocks make them better than any other kind of strut and spring setup. There are many different companies that offer coil over shocks and they have different applications for different types of cars and driving styles. We take a look at which option is the best for your IS300 and your type of driving.

The first set to look at are the Cusco Coilovers. They are made out of thick and rigid aluminum which keeps the weight down and the durability last a long time. Users say that fitment is pretty much perfect, even the abs and brake lines are very percise and fit right on the dot. They come pre-assembled and adjusted to a factory setting and are easy to adjust to personal liking. Drivers who have had these coilovers say that after 35,000 miles of rough cornering they still love them and have no problems. Another great plus is that these coilovers have pillow balls, which don't make noise. In an IS300 luxury is expected and loud creaking or any kind of noise from the pillow balls would make the car feel cheap, luckily with the Cusco coilover system that will not be a problem. The only slight downside, a number of drivers say that these a bit more bouncy than expected during regular driving and even small imperfections in the road can be felt by the occupants. Even though the ride is a little bumpy, users did say they can corner around 20 mph faster on most corners. If your looking for something tough that will last a long time Cusco Coilovers are something definitely worth taking a look at... product link

A newer kind of coilovers, called the Greddy Type S Coilovers, areGreddy Type S Coilovers now available in the US.  In Japan these coilovers are pretty popular and it will only be a matter of time before they are going to blow up in the states. They are fully adjustable in ride height, 32 way dampening, 46mm piston, high quality pillow balls, and made of a light material. These coilovers are a great upgrade for handling and are said to deliver what you pay for. Greddy being a very well trusted and proven company of performance parts always comes up with great quality modifications and this is certainly another one of them. Be one of the few first people to experience the benefits that Greddy coilovers offer... product link

KW Suspensions coilovers are a very well built and high performing product. These shocks have made a lot of different cars cornering abilities skyrocket. They have been originally made for street cars and show great improvement over the stock suspensions. Even though these coilovers were originally made for street cars, there have been major advances recorded on the track.  In fact, 60% of all 24 Hours of Nurburgring race cars deploy KW Suspensions Coilovers.  Users claim to shave away seconds off their lap times, which make these great shocks for the street and occasional track car. They are fully adjustable just like the other coilovers, they are made of thick aluminum and are ready to take a beating without whimping out. The comfort has not been lost as they are very comfortable compared to other coilovers which is perfect for the Lexus. If you have a street IS300 and are looking for something to make your car handle better, look no further as these coilovers provide great street and track results and are made with quality to handle the abuse of city roads.

If your looking for an affordable set of coilovers Megan Racing Coilovers are a cheap way to upgrade. Some people felt that these shocks were a replica of the Ksport coilovers but after testing them out there are many differences. One of the improvements over the K Sport coilovers is that the clunk noise is gone that the Ksports have. Another nice thing is that they don't have as much bouncing around, which makes the ride a lot more comfortable while keeping the damper settings tight. Both these coilovers are an upgrade from stock although the Megan coilovers seem to be a upgrade to the K Sport. One of the bad things about the Megan coilovers is that users complained that the fitment is not very exact. Some people had to dremel out holes and make them into an oval in order to get bolts through. For the low cost of these coilovers I still think it is worth it if your on a budget. The k sport are not as good as the Megans but each driver has their own preference and may like the k sport over the Megans in their own way. Both of these coilovers are mostly best for street and looks, while the track times will be improved over stock the gain will mostly be seen on the street.

Coilovers improve the cornering abilities of the car as well as braking and acceleration. The better the car is planted to the road the better grip and response the car will have. Not only is there better performance but also better looks as the cars height can be adjusted. There are several different brands to choose from and they all have their own characteristics but are all great in their own way. Once you install any of these kits on to the IS300 its time to go on some great roads or tracks and start having the fun that would never be possible without the proper coilovers.
